IEEE Biometrics Council to Support WIFS for 3 years

The IEEE Biometrics Council recently signed a MOU with the Signal Processing Society to technically co-sponsor the IEEE International Workshop on Information Forensics and Security (WIFS) for 3 years, 2011, 2012, and 2013. The two parties will jointly constitute the conference program committee, encourage participation from their members, and publicize the conference within the signal processing community. It is expected that this will enhance the profile, participation, and prestige of WIFS.

The IEEE Biometrics Council was formed with the aim of advancing and coordinating throughout IEEE, the work in the field of biometrics technologies and applications and expanding IEEE's role in this interdisciplinary area. The Council promotes technical activities, sponsors technical meetings and sessions, publishes periodicals, promotes educational activities, develops standards, and engages in any other activity defined within its fields of interest. Its flagship conference is the IEEE Conferences on Biometrics: Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS). Other conferences it co-sponsors include the , International Conference on Biometrics (ICB), Winter Vision Meetings (WVM), and IEEE Conference on Face and Gesture (FG). The council is also responsible for IEEE's first virtual journal -- the IEEE Biometrics Compendium, which is a collection of previously published IEEE papers in specific scientific and technical disciplines, paired with value-added commentary from technology experts.
