News from the SAM TC

By Christoph Mecklenbräuker (SAM Liaison to E-Newsletter)

Christoph MecklenbräukerLess than three months to go until CAMSAP 2011, which will be held in Puerto Rico in December 2011. The peer review process is finalized for all the submitted papers to ensure the outstanding technical quality of the workshop as in all previous editions. The General Co-Chair, Maria Sabrina Greco, compares the organization of a conference to the planning of a wedding party: Everything must be perfect: the mood, location, music, and the food. The plenary talks will be given by Robert Calderbank, Robert Heath, José Moura, P. R. Kumar, and Juan Arratia. CAMSAP 2011 features 12 special sessions and regular oral sessions on smart grids, cognitive systems, radars, high-dimensional optimization, positioning and financial engineering and much more. The mood of CAMSAP2011 will be scientifically stimulating and simultaneously relaxing and smooth. The gala dinner is cheered up by traditional music and dancing of the group Guamanique de Puerto Rico. There are so many attractions in Puerto Rico, from the fortifications of El Morro and San Cristobal, the Bacardi Rum distillery, the natural beauty of El Yunque rainforest, the observatory of Arecibo, to the bioluminescent bays of Fajardo and Vieques Island.

Also, the preparations for the next sensor array and multichannel signal processing (SAM) workshop are well underway. The workshop will take place in the campus of Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, directly across the Hudson River from Midtown Manhattan, with easy access to New York City. Submission of papers will be open until December 2, 2011.

Finally, it is with great sadness that the SAM TC says farewell to its former Chair, Prof. Alex Gershman.
