Call for Nominations

It is now time for us to start the 2011 new TC member nomination/election process. By the new TC policies, we should complete the election process by the end of October.

This year, we have 2 members retiring after their second term, and 3 members whose term ends and are eligible for re-election. By the new TC policies, we are making an open call for nominations on the website, and candidates can be self-nominated or nominated by a TC member. So please consider nominating worthy and willing colleagues for a member position. If you nominated a strong candidate in the past who didn't make it please consider updating and resubmitting your nomination again this year. Fresh nominations are always very welcome. We are looking for technically solid, broad, and experienced candidates.

The SPCOM TC is interested in diversifying its membership in terms of geographic representation, gender, and include more members from industry/government agencies. We wish to ask you to please keep the following in mind when making a nomination:

  1. The currently under-represented geographic areas are the U.S., Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.
  2. We have no industrial/government TC members.
  3. We may need members to cover some emerging SPCOM topic areas, such as smart grid, visible light communication, etc.
  4. We have 4 female TC members, with 1 retiring at the end of this year.
  5. When making a nomination, you should make sure the candidate's willingness to serve if elected. Candidates should clearly understand the TC member responsibilities (e.g., review for ICASSP/SPAWC, participate in TC meetings and electronic votings, etc)
With that said, all we need in the nomination process is
  1. Name, address, current position, contact data;
  2. IEEE-style biography, including awards / honors etc;
  3. Summary publication/industrial research record (e.g., number of journal papers, patents, conference papers, projects you have participated/led, etc)
  4. Current research interests;
  5. List of 5 most important journal papers or patents in the SPCOM area (at least 2-3 should be recent, i.e. from the last 2-3 years);
  6. Record of participate and paper review for SPAWC and ICASSP (last 5 years)
  7. A short statement (1 paragraph) by the nominator if it is not a self-nomination.

We have prepared a simple nomination form to make the nomination process easy. Download the nomination form.

Please send your nomination to Tom Luo (luozq@ece.umn.edu) and cc Tim Davidson (davidson@mcmaster.ca) by Sept. 30, 2011 at the latest. This is a firm deadline, since we still have to vote on this issue, and the official deadline is the end of October.
