Officers reports Tsuhan Chen summarized the report he submitted to the BOG. The report had been emailed to committee members some time ago. B. Subcommittees reports . Conference Committee Representative Tsuhan Chen reported that Rama Chellappa was the representative to the Steering Committee of IEEE Multimedia Conference. Both Antonio Ortega and John Sorensen were in the operation committee of IEEE Multimedia Conference. . Education Committee Representative Yao Wang reported the needs of multimedia signal processing for education. The Education Committee recommends more tutorials and workshops for major conferences such as ICASSP and ICIP. C. Reports of 1998 and 1999 MMSP Workshops Antonio Ortega reported his attendance of long meeting in the Conference Board for MMSP'98. IEEE Press will publish more workshop proceedings. There were about 120 registrations. Ortega suggested that for future workshops the electronic submission and review may have to be done more carefully. John Sorensen reported the preparation of MMSP'99. Concerns of the same deadline as that of ICIP'99 was raised. It was agreed that the MMSP'99 committee will flexibily arrange the deadline given the number of paper submissions. There will be some funds available to support Ph.D. studnets and Post-docs to present papers. IV. Unfinished business N/A V. New business IEEE Multimedia Conference: Tsuhan Chen reported the invitation from Computer Society about IEEE Multimedia conference. Most believed that IEEE Multimedia Conference can be a great platform for MMSP TC in terms of representing Signal Processing Society to bridge together with other societies. Our TC should take active role in participating in the conference. Ryohei Nakatsu reported that the attendance of this conference has been reducing from about 600 a few years ago down to about 100~200 recently, and that can be a reason why Computer Society liked to work with other societies. There was a lengthy discussion on what is the best policy for MMSP TC to participate. A proposal was made, revised several times, and finally unanimously supported. The proposal is summaried below: The MMSP TC proposes to share responsibility and previllidge of the IEEE Multimedia Conference with corresponding TCs of Computer, Communications, and Circuits and Systems Societies under the following three conditions. 1. MMSP TC endorses equal partnership. 2. MMSP TC proposes four technical tracks responsible from each society. For the overlaped technical fields, cooperation can be arranged. 3. MMSP TC recommends the hosting of IEEE Multimedia Conference in a rotational basis, i.e. each society hosts the conference and takes turns for the General chair in every four year. The TC also suggested to host the IEEE Multimedia Conference in year 2001, by combining the MMSP Workshop into the conference. VI. Adjournment Time: 9:30pm
