2001 ICASSP Meeting, May 10, Salt Lake City. Minutes from the Multimedia Signal Processing Technical Committee meeting at ICASSP 2001 Salt Lake City, Thursday, May 10. Participants: Ray Liu, S.Y. Kung, Jeng-Neng Hwang, Wan-Chi Siu, Chin-Hui Lee, Sadaoki Furui, Aggelos Katsaggelos, Rama Chellappa, Chalapty Neti, Zikiang Xiang, Antonio Ortega, Chris Kyriakakis, Michael Brandstein, Xinhua Zhuang, Ling Guan, Z. Ding, H.R. Wu, Sankar Basu, Jean-Luc Dugelay, Ahmed Tewfik, John Aa. Sorensen (reporting.). I. Ray Liu called to order at 11.30. II. The Minutes from the TC meeting at ICME, NYC 2000, was approved. III. Reports A Officers report Ray Liu reported on the MMSPTC status. The funding members are retiring this year, thus there will be 18 members left. At this ICASSP the number of submission was doubled compared to the latter. Rama Chellappa has received the technical achievement award. B Report of ICME 2000. Sankar Basu reported that the surplus of ICME 2000 at NYC was 135.000 $. C Report of MMSP workshop Jean-Luc Dugelay reported that 170 papers was submitted to the 2001 Workshop in Multimedia Signal Processing, Cannes Oct. 3-5, 2001. D Representatives to the IEEE Multimedia Conference Rama Chellappa and Ray Liu proposed to host ICME 2003 in Maryland. A proposal will be forwarded to the ICME Steering Committee. E Representatives to the IEEE Trans. Multimedia Steering Committee. A set of new EDICS developed for Transactions on Multimedia by Tsuhan Chen has been approved by the Transactions on Multimedia Steering Committee. Furthermore Tsuhan Chen is becoming the Editor in Chief of TMM from January 2002. IV Unfinished business. A. Paper Awards Nominations. The paper awards nominations are extended over after ICASSP. Rama Chellappa will be the VP of Awards from 2002. B. Workshop Proposals: 2002 The proposal for MMSP02 chaired by Yun Q. Shi and Sadaoki Furui December 9-11, 2001 at St. Thomas was approved. V New Business A. Workshop Planning and proposals: 2003, and 2004. Ray Liu raised the question if the TC should have a workshop every year or every 2 years, and emphasized the importance of the workshop to the MMSP community. Several points of view was expressed. S.Y. Kung would wait to change the workshop sequence because there are already proposals for 02, 03 and 04. Aggelos Katsaggelos suggested every 2 years. Chin-Hui Lee emphasized that timing is important and suggested a workshop each year. Sankar Basu mentioned that it is important to have more information on ICME., and it is difficult to predict now. Rama Chellappa suggested to have workshops on themes. Ray Liu suggested to ask Mauro Barni to submit a proposal for MMSP03 for the meeting at MMSP01. B. Major Awards Nominations. The nominations will be completed by email after ICASSP01. C. New TC Members nominations. It was decided to elect the new members at the Oct. meeting. The TC can have max. 32 members. It was unanimously decided to elect 9 new members now. VI Adjournment Sankar Basu accepted to contact possible candidates to be nominated for election to the TC.
