2001 MMSP Workshop Meeting, October 4, Cannes. Minutes from the Multimedia Signal Processing Technical Committee of IEEE Signal Processing Society meeting at MMSP’01 , October 4, 2001, Cannes. Participants: Mauro Barni, Tsuhan Chen, Philip A.Chou, Jean-Luc Dugelay, Ling Guan, Monty Hayes, Yu Hen Hu, Mark Liao, K.J. Ray Liu, Benoit Macq, Russ Mersereau, Antonio Ortega, Joern Ostermann, Andrew Perkis, Fabien A.P. Petiholas, Gerasimos (Makis) Potamianos, Ken Rose, John Aa. Sorensen (rep.), Ahmed Tewfik, Yao Wang, Zixiang Xiong. I. Ray Liu called to order at 11.30. II. The Minutes from the MMSPTC meeting at ICASSP’01, was approved. III. Reports A Officers report Ray Liu reported on the MMSPTC status. The funding members are retiring this year, thus there will be 18 members left. At this ICASSP the number of submission was doubled compared to the latter. Rama Chellappa has received the technical achievement award. B Report of the MMSP’01 workshop. Jean-Luc Dugelay reported that MMSP’01 received 170 paper submissions, where 100 papers was accepted. There were 125 registrations for the workshop. C Report of MMSP’02 workshop. Joern Oesterman reported that the MMSP’02, Dec. 9-11 has been accepted by the Conference Board. The General Co-Chairs are Yun Q. Shi, Sadaoki Furui and the Technical Co-Cairs are Joern Oestermann and Xinhua Zhuang. The workshop website is mmsp02.njit.edu. The workshop will support the participation of three students from developing countries. . D Representatives to the IEEE Multimedia Conference Antonio Ortega reported on ICME’02, Aug. 26-29. The General Co-Chairs are Murat Kunt and Pascal Frossard and the Technical Co-Chairs are Antonio Ortega and Benoit Macq. The ICME’03 will be in Baltimore Inner Harbor with General Chair Rama Chellappa and Technical Program Chair K.J. Ray Liu. The Technical Program Vice Chairs are: Joern Ostermann Circuits and Systems Society, Shih-Fu Chang Computer Society, M. Reha Civanlar Communications Society, John Aa. Sorensen, Signal Processing Society. The time of ICME’03 will be late August 2003. Sankar Basu is congratulated being the new chair of the ICME Steering Committee from January 2002. E Representatives to the IEEE Trans. Multimedia Steering Committee. Tsuhan Chen, Editor of Chief of Transactions on Multimedia from January 2002, reported that the work of Manuscript Central is improving, and recognized the need for improving the paper handling time. IV Unfinished business. A. MMSP TC new Members Election. The members election is finished and the following new members are welcomed: Tsuhan Chen, Zhi Ding (SPCOM liason), Alexandros Eleftheriadis, Monson Hayes, Yu Hen Hu, Jenq-Neng Hwang, Chin-Lui Lee, Wan-Chi Siu, John R. Smith, Min Wu. B. ICME and Workshop Proposals: 2003, 2004 and beyond. There are proposals for MMSP’03 in Siena, Italy by Mauro Barni and MMSP’04 in Toronto by Ling Guan. The ICME’03 is decided to be hosted by Rama Chellappa and K.J. Ray Liu in Baltimore late August. Thus, this will be a significant activity for the MMSP TC in 2003. The relation between the MMSP WS and ICME was discussed and several viewpoints was presented: Both can be accomplished as independent activities; the workshop can be a one day track in ICME; only ICME is accomplished. It was decided to investigate the relations between MMSPWS and ICME in a subcommittee with Sankar Basu, Tsuhan Chen, Yu Hen Hu, Ahmed Tewfik and J.Aa. Sorensen, to report at ICASSP’02. V New Business A. Special sessions and tutorial proposals endorsements. It was endorsed to have an ICASSP´02 special session on Data Hiding B. New TC Chair Introduction. K.J. Ray Liu introduced J.Aa. Sorensen as the TC Chair from January 2002. K.J Ray Liu received a strong applause for his very important contributions through excellent leadership of the TC. VI Adjournment
