Reports Officers reports: John Sorensen Given that having three MMSP-TC meeting each year requires a rather big effort, John Sorensen suggests that in the future only two meetings are held, one at ICASSP and one at MMSP or ICME. The possibility of holding a third informal meeting is maintained, the opportunity of holding the third informal meeting to be judged each time. Report of MMSP 2002 The organising committee of MMSP02 is applauded for their excellent work, resulting in a successful MMSP 2002 event. Report of ICME 2003 K. J. Ray Liu communicates that the web site of the Conference is OK, and that the deadline for paper submission has been delayed until the end of December. He also says that the technical programme committee has been enlarged with respect to past ICME’s, so that it now includes about 200 members. In this way it should be possible to easily handle all the submissions that are foreseen to be about 1000. K.J. Ray Liu expresses his satisfaction for the good co-operation between the four IEEE societies involved in the conference. Report of ICASSP 2003 John Sorensen announces that there were 78 papers submitted falling in the MMSP area. Representatives to IEEE Multimedia Conference It is confirmed that in 2004 ICME will be held in Taipei from August 2 to August 5. Representatives to IEEE Trans. on Multimedia Steering Committee Tsuhan Chan reports on the status of the IEEE Trans. on Multimedia. TMM is in good shape and is going to grow in next years (more pages, possibly six issues instead than 4), so that it should be possible to reduce the 1 year printing queue actually slowing down the publication of accepted papers. Tsuhan Chen confirms that it is the intention of the editorial board to give the IEEE TMM a more focused scope. More specifically, AE’s are invited to accept only papers touching at least two different media, two different technologies, two different applications etc … so to stress out the multimedia nature of these transactions. From the point of view of quality, TMM has already reached a very high level with a rejection rate which is approximately 1 accepted paper out of three submissions. IV.
