Sorensen, Li Deng, Jenq-Neng Hwang, Nauro Barni, Pascal Frossard, M. Reha Civanlar, Alessendro Piva (guest) 1. Membership Report (J. A. Sorensen) The issue of abolishing liaison membership in MMSP is discussed. An electronic vote to change the bylaw to effect this change will be conducted later. The TC chair is to propose within the technical direction committee to promote the coordination among different TCs by including chairs of other TCs in the TC email list. The TC member feel that even after the liaison membership is abolished, the TC's size should remain at 32. New member nomination is still open. A vote for new TC members will be conducted electronically later. 2. Award nominations: The endorsement request from the speech TC to nominate Professor S. Furui for the SPS society award has be voted and passed unanimously. An updated nomination paper can be found at http://www.ece.wisc.edu/~mmsptc/tcmeeting/FuruiNomination.doc The nomination of Professor Jay Kuo for the technical achievement award has been voted and passed unanimously. The nomination for the best paper award has been discussed. The members feel that the award subcommittee should provide written opinions on the two nominations, and a recommendation. Due to concerns of conflict interests, several award subcommittee members can not participated the discussion. Hence, the TC chair appointed Professors Ingemar Cox and Jenq-Neng Hwang to join the current award subcommittee, and ask Professor Cox to lead the discussion on the 2005 best paper award nomination, and report to the TC. Multimedia now has its own best paper award has been discussed. It is understood that papers published in T. MM should still be eligible to be nominated for SPS best paper awards. The editors of T. MM will be encouraged to nominate high quality papers to the MMSP TC for future best paper award nomination. 3. Conference Professor Yun Shi reported that MMSP2005 and MMSP2006 proposals will be circulated among TC members and to be approved through electronic votes shortly. Mauro Barni reported MMSP 2004. There are more than 400 paper submissions with 130 papers accepted. There are 130 paid registrations, and no-shows are very rare. The committee unanimously applauded Professor Barni and his team for a very successful workshop. 4. New business Professor Tsuhan Chen comment on the low paper submission of MMSP area in ICASSP 2004. This issue will be passed to the technical direction subcommittee within MMSP TC for further discussion.
