In November 2011, the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities Board approved a motion to revise the geographic unit formation petition process for Sections, Subsections, Chapters, and Affinity Groups, effective 1 January 2012.

The revisions were developed as a result of an audit of the current process that identified opportunities for more stringent risk management and compliance control.

Petition organizers should be aware of the primary process revisions for petitions to form Sections, Subsections, Chapters, or Affinity Groups. They are:

On November 14 2011, the  2011 Western New York Image Processing Workshop (WNYIPW) was hold in Rochester Institute of Technology. The workshop, now in its 14th year, is jointly sponsored by the Rochester chapter of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

and the Rochester chapter of the Society for Imaging Science and Technology.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) announced the 2012 Class of Distinguished Lecturers. Five colleagues were honored and they are: Tülay Adali (University of Maryland); John Apostolopoulos (Hewlett-Packard Labs); Yonina Eldar (Israel Institute of Technology); Ton Kalker (Hewlett-Packard Labs); and Pierre Moulin (University of Illinois-Urbana).

A beta version of the new tool to report new geographic organizational unit officers or officer changes has been released.
